I don’t know what came over me this year, but I quit smoking (after 35 years), hired a personal trainer, and lost ten pounds. As you can tell from my smoking years, I’m no spring chicken. But, I continue to strengthen daily.

This blog is my personal diary filled with tips, tricks, and resources on how to get in shape for individuals who have hit the big 5-0. It doesn’t matter that you’re ready to sign up for AARP (Association for the Advancement of Retired Persons) - if you’re fit, you might live another fifty years. But, being fit is something many people in my generation barely learned in school. Many of us now have the desire to undo the wrongs we’ve committed against our bodies and many of us still have the energy to reverse some of those aging trends. Commitment to change, however, takes some resolve.

Thanks to Deanna, my personal trainer, and to some great exercise and books, I learned how to use basic exercise equipment and how to work certain muscles. And, thanks to Jenny Craig, I learned how to eat correctly and in the right portions (although that program was just the beginning to my “school of better nutrition”). Eating in smaller portions took some real study on my part, as I was brought up to eat everything on my plate, no matter how large the plate.

Hopefully, I can inspire you to improve your health through my tips and motivations. And, I’ll try my best to show you how you can find local as well as online resources for your personal improvement projects. If you have any suggestions or tips, let me know.
